At Plei, you run the game—we just make it easy. Everything’s organized through the app so all you have to do is show up, follow these steps, and enjoy the beautiful game. Most importantly: have fun! 😄

🟢 Before the Game

Check Your Teams

Once your game is confirmed, you’ll see suggested teams in the app.

  • You can follow them
    ​

  • Or switch it up on the field if:
    ​

    • You want to play with friends
      ​

    • Teams feel unbalanced—we trust players to make the call and keep things fun and fair. ⚖️

Arrive Early

Try to show up 15 minutes before kickoff to check in, warm up, and be ready to go.

It’s a simple way to respect the other players’ time and make sure everyone gets the most out of the full game. ⏱️⚽

Pickup Game Essentials

  • Most games are played on turf
    ​

  • Wear turf shoes or sneakers (check the game details for cleat rules)
    ​

  • Bring water and a towel—hydration and sweat control = an elite pickup experience
    ​

✅ Check-In

Find Your Field

  • Ask the facility staff where the Plei game is—they’ll point you in the right direction.

Warm-Up Gear

  • If you’re early, grab pinnies and a ball from the staff and start stretching or taking shots.

Organize Teams

  • You can use the Teams list in the app, or just decide amongst yourselves what makes the most sense.

👉 Only players on the list can play—no walk-ons.

⚽ During the Game

  • No slide tackles
    ​

  • Switch goalies every 2 goals or 10 minutes
    ​

  • All outs & fouls = indirect kicks (no throw-ins)
    ​

  • If teams feel uneven, swap 2 players and restart the score at 0–0
    ​

Uneven Player Count?

Start with uneven teams. If one team goes down by 3 goals, switch a player from the larger team. Keep it rotating—this system works and keeps things fun and fair. 👍

👑 King of the Turf (3+ Teams)

For games with 3 or more teams, follow this rotation:

  • 2 teams play while the 3rd (or more) rests
    ​

  • Switch teams every 7 minutes or 2 goals (whichever comes first)
    ​

  • Winning team stays
    ​

  • If it’s a tie, settle it with Rock-Paper-Scissors
    ​

  • Score is 0–0? The current “King” defends their turf
    ​

  • Max of 3 rounds in a row per team—then take 1 round off
    ​

  • Sitting teams track time (use a phone timer), and call out the 1:30 warning
